Face irritation concerns force Facebook to pause Oculus Quest 2 sales

Facebook is pausing the sales of the Oculus Quest 2 VR headset a month before updating it with more storage. Several owners of the headset reported face irritation issues from the foam faceplate, causing the face to puff up and the eyes to close.

In the future Oculus Quest 2 will ship with silicone face covers, which will fit over the foam. Those who have already purchased the headset and experience skin irritation can get the cover for free.

Nextech to launch Augmented Reality NFT hologram creator platform

The AR vendor in e-commerce, e-learning, AR video conferencing, and events has revealed its plans to launch the NFT hologram creator platform.

The rollout plan includes two stages. At first, the users can purchase human holograms through the third-party NFT marketplace, and then view them with Nextech’s HoloX application. The second stage is about minting the NFT on Nextech’s platform in order to buy and sell holograms right through Nexttech’s platform.

Poco Interactive becomes the first VR hardware provider to support the Holoride experience through Elastic SDK. The software development kit provided by Holoride runs the Unity game engine and enables developers to create immersive in-car game experiences.

Osso VR raises $27 million to turn surgery into a video game

Osso VR, a startup focused on medical training, closed $27 million in Series B funding in order to build a Virtual Reality solution that allows surgeons to practice with medical devices and perform virtual surgeries in 3D space.

From the medical hardware provider’s point of view, partnership with Osso VR helps boost familiarity with their products among medical workers.

Zuckerberg tells investors about turning trillion-dollar Facebook into a ‘metaverse’ company

During the call on Facebook’s quarterly earnings, Mark Zuckerberg took a moment to speak on the company’s ambitions to turn Facebook into a “metaverse company”

Facebook CEO describes the metaverse as the virtual space where people can be present digitally. Instead of the internet and Facebook in particular being the collection of web pages, Mark Zuckerberg’s goal is to make it feel like the MMO, which people can experience through AR and VR platforms.

Oculus scarps the sales of the Rift S headset, instead offering the latest model of Oculus Quest 2. Starting at $299, Oculus Quest 2 is wireless, supports spatial audio, better performance, and screencasting.

Oculus starts fully supporting OpenXR API, using it to deliver new features instead of proprietary ones like Oculus Mobile and PC APIs.
